It’s totally tubular dude …

According to Donatella Versace, ‘During the eighties and nineties people wanted to be chic, elegant and bourgeois’. Well I’m not sure how well that worked out for them if you look back through some of the photos of 80s fashion but hindsight is a wonderful thing and we are all creatures of the time in which we live at any given moment. Whether you loved them or loathed them (or maybe you weren’t even alive then) the 80s are back in fashion according to Australian Vogue’s March issue. If a fashion bible such as Vogue reports such things it must be true.

So it’s time to drag out your velvet ankle boots, complete with bow (think Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan) your lace gloves (like a virgin) and your oversized faux snake skin envelope clutch (preferably in white).

You will also need to resurrect your graduation dress complete with very, very puffy sleeves, a dropped waistline and plenty of scrunching or ruching. The shinier the material the better!

Last, but definitely not least, you need to get your hands on lots of 80s accessories such as wide belts, huge earrings (preferably gold), chunky necklaces, heaps of bangles and a bum bag. Miss Meg’s can help out with all of these items (except the bum bag—I draw the line here).

The bigger the better in the 80s!

Remember the 80s was the decade of excess where everything that could be oversized was. Big hair, big shoulder pads, big accessories reigned supreme. It doesn’t have to be OTT in 2017 but I for one would love the opportunity to wear a rah-rah skirt with an oversized hypercolour t-shirt again. Now I have the perfect reason to do so. The 80s are back baby. Back to the future.
